I run 40-50 miles a week, and the Pegasus have been my daily trainers for the last 3-4 years; this is my 8th pair. The 35s is the biggest change in the design of the shoe I have seen (I started with the 32s). I like how they look and the moccasin-like shape (a much smaller portion of the shoe is kept by shoelaces). Like their predecessors, they are durable and wear well. I run a half-marathon or more every weekend in them with no problem. On the flip side, they are on the heavy side, so I wouldn't wear them for a race.

The fit is a bit funky... I buy the Pegasus 1/2 size larger, and it was always a good fit. I find that the new upper design results in a lower profile of the shoe, so people with a high instep (like me) may feel a bit of pressure there. I managed to find a way of tying my shoelaces that would minimize that, but with the previous iterations of these shoes, I didn't need to think about it at all.

I love the Pegasus series... I am not a great Runner but in 2017 I purchased Pegasus 31 and have been in love with this series until recently with Pegasus 35 and 36. I am desperately in need of a new pair of running shoes similar in cushion and stability and have tried Pegasus 35 and 36 and cannot find the comparison with Pegasus 31. The Pegasus I purchased from Amazon are 35 and are great for walking they are very comfortable in that respect however for running I feel like a big clod running because of the lack of flexibility in the sole and not enough cushion throughout. I'm a big guy, and I walk a lot. I've walked through many, many pairs of shoes. Whatever they have for soles on these shoes, they should use it on all their styles, 'cause it lasts the best of anything I've tried. I've read other folks' bad reviews, and I guess they had a bad experience, and that's legit, but I've found these not only long-lasting on the sole, but also on the upper. And at the top for comfort. I do my walking in Seattle, so water resistant in a pair of walking shoes is vital. Even though they are a pretty open design, they are not bad: fine in light to moderate rain, not so fine in hard rain. Yes, they do come untied pretty easily, but double-knotting helps. The heel tends to break down and get lumpy if you stuff your foot in, so a shoehorn or some other care in this regard is strongly suggested.

They are not cheap, but I've found them to be a great value. I'm about to buy a new pair. My old ones are still OK, but I'm afraid that Rockport will discontinue them for fashion's sake, and I want to make sure I have a second pair standing by.

I initially ordered this shoe a few weeks ago, and they seemed to be well made for the price, except for a lack of padding in the tongue. One thing I liked about the shoe is that a short extension of the leatherette overlaps the area where the end of the big toe is, which in many other tennis shoes is covered by the shoe mesh. In some of my other sneakers the mesh in that spot has split, which the design of this shoe should prevent.

Now for the not so good. I had previously noted that some reviewers had complained that the shoe is narrower than what the width is labeled. I normally take a 14W shoe and decided to take a chance and ordered that size in this shoe. At first the shoes seemed to be OK for the daily walks I have been taking. However, after a few weeks of walking I came to be aware of my toes being cramped. Otherwise being satisfied with the shoe, I decided to order the same shoe in 14-X wide, figuring that would solve the problem.

The shoes came yesterday, but, even though the label on the shoe says 4E. they looked to be the same size as the other ones I had. which had 2E on the label. To make sure of that, I placed one of the new shoes sole-to-sole to match with one of the other shoes and they were EXACTLY the same width.

Perhaps the problem is with the manufacturer, which is located in Vietnam, surreptitiously cutting corners to save their costs. Nevertheless, New Balance should have better quality control to make sure about what is being put out in their name.

[Edit. I might be wrong about what I said concerning the difference between wide and extra wide. I order a pair of the NB 877 wide, which do have a wide toe box. I found they fit well in the toes, but perhaps a bit snug. Since they were not expensive, I ordered a pair of the extra wide. I found that the sole to sole measurement between the wide and the extra wide was the same BUT the uppers in the extra wide, even visually WERE wider. That got me to thinking that they might have done the same for the 574v2. I was going only by the sole to sole measurement on those and did not actually try wearing them long enough to make a fit determination.

In any case, I am returning the pair I just received.

Asics Gel-Kayano looks great and is the only brand/product that I comfortably can say fit my feet perfectly every time and let me run without any of my feet start aching. Technically Asics Gel-Kayano is a great running shoe, fits the feet well, gives great support to your feet when running and the "gel" technology protects the knees! Most other shoes from other vendors give me problems one way or another when running.

The only drawback with Asics Gel-Kayano in general (though not with this pair yet) - which to me is an annoying and unnecessary issue but has been consistent over the last five-six years and my approximately 15th pairs of Asics - is that each Asics Gel-Kayano pair does not look good for long. After a relatively short period of time (frequently only a month in of using them) a hole will start appearing in the upper part of the shoe covering your toes (hole in the mesh toe cap). I wish Asics would recognize and correct this flaw because the hole in the toe cap look bad in an otherwise almost new shoe (and people who don't have Asics frequently ask what has happened) but it is the same issue every time and has happened to all my previous pairs over the years but it has never happened to any other brand I have used. I have pointed out this issue (flaw) directly to Asics but the reference to the warranty and I did send one pair once that I got replaced and they only lasted one month again before it was a new hole in one of the shoes again. I had shoes replaced twice but who has time to continuously send the shoes in for warranty replacement only to get a new pair with the same issue? However, even with the holes, the shoes can be used (and the only one that I feel comfortable with) but this issue is annoying and the shoes look bad almost immediately (see a photo of my previous pair - not the latest).

In short, the Asics Gel-Kayano is a great running shoe that fits your feet well, providing excellent stability and support for your feet and they are a savior for your knees but don't expect them to look good or last for long.
